Our house, in the middle of our street

We are, again, having a visitor's week. Friends from The Netherlands, London and Cheshire are around this week, so we end up doing more talking than blogging when that happens, so this blog post is focussing close to home. Our street is quite gracious, residential and friendly: folk are always stopping for a chat, and in this glorious weather with the sun shining most of the time, we have been doing so much of that.

The neighbourhood really suits us. There are boutique coffee shops at the end of our streets. We have tried them all, but the closest, barely 100 metres away, is our favourite. It serves Illy coffee, too, so can hardly go wrong. Our favourite barista here is from Serbia and, to date, she makes the best espresso in London, and tells great tales of here and abroad to keep us entertained. Of an evening it turns into a bar, and with Peroni on tap makes for a great aperitif stop. On game days it is not even negotiable for lunch, drinks or dinner. Craven Cottage, the stadium for Fulham football team is a block up the road. We can hear the crowd roar as if they were next door.

Our little flat is stretched at its seams at times. But still we have come to love it, bijou though it is. Mind you, we can live happily in a 51/2 metre motorhome for a three month stint, so our two bedroomed London flat is actually spacious, comparatively. In terms of space it is functional for three, problematic for four, hazardous for more than that. It has a living room which operates as our lounge as well as our dining room. A convertible sofa bed has come in handy on occasions but has to seat three to watch tele, if and when we find time to do that. We have a guest bedroom and a main bedroom, which has steps down to it from a long hall, a spine that divides the flat.

There is a rooftop deck off the main bedroom -- we found the key for it recently so can now enjoy it in full -- albeit overlooking surrounding properties and streets in the main. Spring has sprung and the surrounding gardens are all being spruced up as the sun continues to shine. We take our evening drinks out there. We have one and only one bathroom. We are spoiled at home, and realise that here. And there is a small, but very serviceable, kitchen. With buses at both ends of the street, plus three underground stations within a couple of stops in several different directions, it is all very accessible. And so very easy to love.
